The biggest online forum for Vietnamese pet-lovers.
Vietpet, the biggest online forum for Vietnamese pet-lovers was established in January 2006.
According to Nguyen Thanh Nhan, administrator of Vietpet, the purpose of the forum is to create a closely connected community of pet lovers in Vietnam, and to serve as a more healthy online community for young Vietnamese, providing them with the useful knowledge about the latest pet-raising methods. The forum now has more than ten thousand active members in Vietnam and abroad.
“In the forum, people can learn about how to raise a pet, how to teach them good behaviour, and how to care for them when they are sick. We have advice from vets and dog trainers and breeders, who area members of the forum”, Nhan says.
Vietpet have been conducting activities to preserve rare breeds of Vietnamese dogs such as those from Bac Ha and the short dingoes from Ha Giang. The forum guides and provides local people with information and methods to raise and breed the dogs, helping increase their number in the locality. Vietpet is currently conducting the similar activities to preserve Vietnam’s unique Phu Quoc dogs.
Members of the forum are spread nationwide, and they often hold offline meeting or gatherings in their locality to share their experiences in raising pets, and to show off their beloved animals.
Doan Thanh Hai, operator of the cat-lover club in Hanoi, a Vietpet group, says that her club started in April 2008 and often holds offline gatherings and other activities at Bao Sinh’s Hotel for Dogs and Cats (167 Truong Dinh street). Every gathering gives them lots of fun as they have the chance to show off their pets as well as to exchange experiences and love for their beloved pets.
“Before our club held gatherings every two weeks at Thien Quang Lake, but as the numbers increased it became a problem, so we have chosen Quang An Staium on Dang Thai Mai street, Tay Ho District as the new location. We will have the first offline gathering there on August 31st.”, says Nghiem Xuan Ky, operator of the Hanoi dog-lover club.
Ky says that in provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Sapa, Da Nang, and Vinh, people have also started the activities like them.
